Portland Walls

Portland Walls from nate on Vimeo.

Over the summer and fall of 2009 I shot some Super 8 film with the hope of editing it into a video essay on walls and metropolis. I thought I would take part of Antonio Negri’s essay Multitude and the Metropolis focusing on the building and maintenance of walls to show how parts of my city — Portland, Maine — were dominated and intersected by some really big walls.

But it didn’t happen. At least not yet. Instead, here’s a simple video with some sound effects and music. It’s not perfect, but I think it holds onto the atmosphere of the places where it was shot.

Tech stuff:
Camera: Canon 814 AZ Electronic
Film: Kodak Ektachrome 64
Transferred to digital and edited in Final Cut Pro
Titles in After Effects
